On The Drawing Board
At Virginia Sterling, we have a singular passion – we love furniture. Because of this we are constantly in search of the next new design to add to our assortment. Inspiration comes in all forms from antiques to architecture. Beds have been inspired by fireplace mantels, the porch railing of a century home has evolved into a dresser post and the drawer face of a 200 year old antique writing desk blossomed into a stunning modern bedroom collection. At any given time, we have hundreds of sketches, photographs of antiques, and pages torn from magazines hanging in our design department. We spend hours talking with retailers, designers, and consumers about what works and what doesn’t - sharing sketches and photos, discussing form and function, and pouring over fashion trends. We look, imagine and explore – searching for the perfect element that makes a piece of furniture desired and treasured for years.
We love the process of evolving an idea into something real, something tangible. But the process is pointless if, at the end of the day, you don’t love it as much as we do. To make sure you do, we created this page to accomplish two things.
First, we would like to provide a glimpse of some of the products on our drawing board that will be hitting retail sales floors in the coming months. Second, we invite your help in making these designs as beautiful and functional as possible. Let us know what you think – after all, we make this furniture in the hopes that it will become a part of your home. Please feel free to send us your comments, suggestions, and questions by filling out the short form, at left.
French Creek
This collection, made of solid Pennsylvania Cherry, was inspired by a French antique buffet we stumbled across. This group is both rustic and clean – evoking a classic French farmhouse that has been updated for today’s style.

The key element that attracted us to the antique is the heavy, rounded corner post on each case. The weight of the post grounds the piece while the shape provides movement and grace. Each drawer front features a soft bevel at the edges adding a layer of depth that adds character to the face while the wide rails framing the captured end panels complete the style from any angle. A simple solid brass knob is blended with a more traditional French bail pull to perfectly complement the rich, honey brown finish. A slight burnishing of the hardware and careful physical distress give this collection a feeling of history and life.
Easy Modern
The goal with this design is to create a collection of pieces that define tomorrow – through design and function. The clean, contemporary lines are softened by the natural character of the solid Maple and heavy hand distressing. Additionally, the use of top grain leather to accent the antique brass hardware and on the stunning leather headboard adds a layer of sophistication and character.

The Easy Modern collection is as much driven by function as form – with today’s active and electronic lifestyle carefully considered. The night stands feature an electronic charging station for cell phones and iPods inside the top drawer – discreetly hidden from view to keep clutter to a minimum. The laptop desk comes equipped to handle any and all electronics with multiple power outlets, LAN and phone jacks, and USB ports. Each piece features captured end panels, graduated drawers, and a rich, deep cabernet finish. |
