Quality Pledge

At Virginia Sterling, we appreciate the investment our customers make when they purchase one of our products. A bed or dresser is not something that is used for a few years then tossed away. We want and expect each of our products to withstand an unlimited number of restful nights and a lifetime of drawer openings.

To ensure that each piece of Virginia Sterling stands the test of time we place constant emphasis on quality throughout our entire process – from design to delivery.

Materials

A high quality piece of furniture begins and ends with the materials used in its construction. Since we make solid wood furniture, the lumber is the primary element and where we pay particular attention. We purchase only the finest, highest grade Cherry, Maple, and Quarter Sawn Oak harvested throughout the rich timberlands of Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Each of our lumber suppliers takes great pride in adhering to state and national forest management standards and regulations. Each board is carefully inspected for consistency of color, clarity, and moisture content upon arrival.

Construction

The heart of quality solid wood cabinetmaking lies in the process of joining two pieces of wood. Mortise and tenon, wood dowels, dovetails, miter joints, tongue and groove, and lap joints are all used throughout our products – depending on the specific needs of each piece - to obtain maximum strength and stability. Our corner blocks, interior framing, and fitted back panels are carefully installed to prevent racking and keep each piece square and sturdy. To help prevent splits and warping, from the solid wood naturally expanding and contracting, we insert small rubber ball bearings in the routed grooves of all doors and framed panels. We employ these centuries old methods of joinery to ensure each piece of Virginia Sterling furniture is as strong as it is beautiful.

Finish

Once a piece of furniture is built strong and sturdy – it is time for the finishing touch. All of our finishes are painstakingly developed to produce just the right blend of color and sheen for a particular design. Our goal is to provide a vibrant, rich, deep finish that enhances the natural beauty and character of the solid wood below. Our finishers take their time – hand wiping and delicately sanding each piece between spraying operations, sealing and top coating the inside and out of each drawer, and meticulously inspecting each piece for the consistency of color, depth, and clarity desired.
